As you're bringing up your tween, you're probably starting to notice something - 'hygiene isn’t easy to talk about or teach biblically, simply because there’s not a lot about practical cleansing in the Bible. (There’s much more on ritual cleansing.) But, one thing stands true: your body is a holy temple for the living God of our the universe. Your daughter needs to know this. Her body is a temple of the living God—His dwelling place. And if God is living in her body, then it should be cared for better than the Taj Mahal.' So without further ado, here's devo #4 : a "body-boosting" bubble bath!
Challenge Activity: A bubble bath
Subject: Hygiene
Setting Options: a Jacuzzi tub at a hotel, grandmas or your own house
Materials You’ll Need:
• Reservations at a hotel, or resort, or grandmas. You might also just plan to do this at your own home.
•A “body boost” gift bag or basket full of hygiene products such as deodorant, shampoo, a razor, and body wash.
• It's Great to Be a Girl book by Dannah Gresh and Suzy Weibel.
For the best results of fantastic bible study, use It’s Great To Be A Girl. Do Meditation #3 together. If you do not have that book, you can discuss these things.
- 1. Read I Corinthians 3:16,17. What does it call your body? (Answer: A temple.) A temple is a place where God lives, so that means God’s Spirit is living in you. How does that make you feel? (Answers will vary.)
- 2. Does God’s Spirit live in everyone? (Answer: No. He lives in those who have asked Christ to be the Lord of their life. If you or your daughter have not made this decision scroll down to find the 'The A, B, C’s of Becoming A Christian'.)
- 3. If God is living in us, what does that say about how we should care for our bodies? (Answers will vary: we should clean them, provide nutrition, avoid putting harmful substances in them, etc.)
Body Boost Gift Basket
Create a fun basket for your daughter that includes items she’ll use in her bubble bath, but also on a regular basis from this day forward. Be sure to include what she’s ready for, but not things she doesn’t yet need. For example, a nine year old may not need acne medication just yet. Hold off on that and maybe just buy her a simple facial cleanser.

The A, B, C’s of Becoming a Christian
Lots of people say they are Christians, but I am fairly convinced that many of them are not. What a sad thing to think that going to church, being good, or calling yourself a Christian would be your ticket to heaven all the while never having actually chosen to follow Jesus Christ in obedience. Jesus himself said he was the only way to heaven. John 14:6 reads: “Jesus said ..., “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Becoming a Christian is not difficult, but many are confused or distracted by things and actions that do not make them any more a Christian than walking on all fours makes me a dog!
A—Admit you are a sinner. A person must start with the confession that she has sinned. She must be both sorry for her sin and willing to stop. It doesn’t matter if it is fighting with your siblings, cheating on a test or—moms—cheating on your taxes or fighting with your siblings! Sin separates us from God. Because he is so perfect and holy, we cannot be in the presence of uncleansed sin. Romans 3:23 says “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” There’s that word again—glory. We cannot reflect God’s image if there is sin in us. And this verse says we’re all guilty.
If you know you have sinned, pause to verbally confess your sin to Him right now.
B—Believe that Jesus is the Son of God and that his death on the cross was payment for all your sins. You may be familiar with John 3:16. That beloved, worn out but never weary Bible verse reads: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” What kind of love is that? That God would sacrifice his only son so that we can live with him. He so wants you to be a Christian because he loves you.
If you believe Jesus is God’s son, pause to verbally say that to him out loud.
C—Confess your faith in Jesus out loud and to others. Romans 10:9,10 says that “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Salvation requires your mouth! You must tell both God and others that Jesus is the Lord of your life.
